This autumn, Ventspils Grain Terminal handled its first consignment of grain from Belarus. The initial shipment, which consisted of oilseed rape, was dispatched to importers in Germany. Previously, Ventspils had also handled potassium salt and metals from the neighbouring state. The aim is to attract all forms of grain exports from Belarus in addition to oilseed rape over the next few years. Ventspils is the natural outlet bought for the landlocked state, which is a major producer of grain. The grain terminal at the port is also targeting exporters in Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Kazakhstan. To date, around $30 million has been invested in the terminal by owners LSF Holdings (50%), LifeGrain (41.46%) and Grain Pool of Kazakhstan (8.54%).
