Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny” handled 18,8 million tonnes of cargo in 2020. This is a record result in the company's history, which is 24% higher than the previous benchmark. Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny” is the largest public stevedoring company in terms of cargo turnover.
The cargo nomenclature includes ore, pig iron, coal, grain and grain products, equipment. The volume of export ore increased by 4,8 million tonnes (+53% compared to 2019) to 13,7 million tonnes. The growth of export cargo is 47% compared to last year.
The stevedoring company welcomed 6 vessels with components for wind turbines: columns, gondolas, hubs, drives and blades. For the first time, Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny” handled large-sized elements for wind power plants - blades. Before unloading this equipment, the roads were expanded, storage areas were prepared, and a technology for handling oversized cargo was developed.

We are ready to create a prosperous region and a rich country in 2021”, said Serhii Kovshar, acting director of Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny”.
During 2020, the Yuzhny Commercial Sea Port handled 330 vessels, including 154 Capesize vessels. The number of ship calls is 36% higher than last year's result. 257,010 railcars were handled in 2020. This figure is 19% higher than last year.
In 2020, the ultimate goals were to maintain a stable cargo flow and expand the range of cargoes. The team of Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny” successfully achieved them. It was important last year and today it is a chief aim to preserve the health of the port workers.
“After the highest performance last year, our plans for this year are even more ambitious. We are ready for the proper fulfilment of contractual obligations, increasing the speed and improving the quality of cargo operations. It is planned to start the implementation of important projects to modernize the enterprise, namely, the modernization of the complex for export cargo, the construction of a complex for import cargo and a new car dumper. In 2021, we will pay special attention to carrying out repairs to ensure the smooth operation of handling equipment”, said Serhii Kovshar, acting director of Sea Commercial Port “Yuzhny”.
