TAIM WESER will take its latest green and efficient
cogeneration system along to the fourth Expobioenergía
Exhibition, which will be held at the Valladolid Trade Fair from
21 to 23 October. The company will launch an innovative
high-efficiency biomass gasification plant, which has had a
warm reception on the renewable energy market due to its
high technology and competitive advantages. The high-energy
efficiency plant uses biomass to produce electricity and heat.
Due to its compact size and modular design it can be installed
wherever the biomass product is created. For more details
on the plant, please see ‘Biomass cogeneration solutions’ on
p61 of the January 2009 issue of Dry Cargo International.
As part of the parallel Trade Fair activities, the company
will take part in the technical sessions for exhibitors by
making a speech on the green cogeneration process based on
biomass gasification. It will also participate in the ‘Active
Bioenergy’ workshop that will involve companies from Europe
and Latin America.
DOWNDRAFT TECHNOLOGY FOR A GREENER PROCESSUsing plant biomass from any source (agroforestry activities,
industrial waste, energy crops), TAIM WESER’s high-efficiency
biomass plant produces electricity through gasification. The
heat generated during the process can also be used. To use
this recoverable heat, the company develops different
applications in accordance with the customer’s needs,
whether for heating, cooling, drying purposes, etc. The
company based in Aragón has been pioneering in the
industrial application of downdraft technology, which it has
used to develop the gasifier for this plant. This technology
has allowed it to reduce the presence of tar in the product
gas. The result is a greener process and a simpler, more robust
and more reliable system.
Another innovative feature in the plant is that, unlike
conventional biomass plants, it does not require very fine
particle sizes to operate. This avoids extra costs due to
excessive crushing. The technology used also avoids complex
cleaning processes and means that fungible commodities
other than the biomass itself to not need to be used to keep
the systems running.
AN ADAPTABLE MODULAR PLANTOne of the greatest appeals of this plant for the market is its
modular design and compact size, allowing it to be installed in
the same place that the biomass is produced. This greatly
increases its efficiency because raw material transport costs
and the resulting CO2 emissions are cut down drastically.
Due to its advanced technology, TAIM WESER’s biomass plant
can be adapted to the special requirements of each
application. It is a comprehensive energy solution that is ideal
for applications in which there is biomass product available
and electricity and/or heat needed to be produced with
operating safety and in strict compliance with environmental
regulations. It can be used for self generation, for sale to
third parties or for rural electricity supplies, among others.
The plant has 650–750 kW nominal power, 1200-1400 kW
usable heat and 10% self-consumption.
A THRIVING SECTORThe biomass sector is developing rapidly in Europe and in
Latin America because it brings down CO2 emissions, reduces
energy dependence on other contaminating sources and
ensures a balanced energy mix. Biomass is therefore a
profitable, environmentally-sustainable and convenient
alternative for users. In addition, in the case of using forestry
waste, it helps to avoid fires by encouraging the proper
maintenance and clearing of forests.
Expobioenergía is the only Spanish exhibition in its field
and is an international benchmark for the bioenergy sector.
The trade fair has made itself a name in just four editions,
multiplying all of its features by three in this time.
Expobioenergía 09 will include 500 stands and 20,000m2 of
exhibition area. The organizers are counting on a repetition of
the previous success and expect to receive 15,000 visiting
professionals.
