Last Saturday, a special law was passed to take British Steel under the control of the UK Government.
British Steel are pleased to confirm that vital raw materials are being unloaded at their port facility, Immingham Bulk Terminal. They will then be transported to their headquarters in Scunthorpe to support their iron and steelmaking operations. Other raw materials are also on their way.
While this remains a challenging period for British Steel colleagues, they now have great hope.
British Steel stated;
"We’d like to thank the UK Government, our customers, suppliers, and industry peers for their unflinching support.
And above all, we’d like to recognise the incredible efforts of our employees – the finest steelmakers in the world.
In the most testing of circumstances, they are pulling out all the stops to ensure we keep Britain’s last 2 blast furnaces operating so we can deliver the steel this country needs.
The heavens reflect your labours. And for that, we are truly grateful."
