In June, Peel Ports Mersey outlined its 20-year vision for growth and future developments, as it set out its proposals in its draft Mersey Ports masterplan.
Following the June launch at Liverpool’s Maritime Centre, Peel Ports Mersey will begin a 13-week public consultation, closing on Monday 5 September 2011.
The draft master plan details Peel Ports Mersey’s growth strategy and predicted volume forecasts up to 2030, which would see a 70% growth in tonnage handled by Peel Ports Mersey.
The masterplan sets out how the port can best accommodate this growth whilst also capturing new business opportunities from a number of key developments.
Peel Port’s plans will positively support the North West region and beyond by capitalizing on prospects to create jobs and further contribute to the regional economy.
Key elements of the draft masterplan include:
- land strategy and ‘areas of change’
- transportation (road, rail, barge and short-sea shipping)
- socio economic considerations y environmental considerations
Peel Ports Mersey managing director Gary Hodgson said: “The purpose of the masterplan is to clarify our own strategic planning for the medium to long term — and inform all of our stakeholders; from regional and local planning bodies and transport network providers to port users, employees and, very importantly, people living in local communities, as to how they can expect to see the port and ship canal develop over the coming years. This will be an extensive consultation, and we are asking people to get involved and tell us what they think. All written views will be carefully considered and will help to shape the final version of the masterplan.”
A three month period of consultation will commence from today, all contributions to the consultation are actively welcomed from all organizations and sectors of the community.
