Martin Engineering, the world’s largest supplier of industrial
vibrators, has acquired Cougar Industries (Peru, IL), a
manufacturer of high-quality industrial vibrators made in the
USA.
Martin Engineering CEO Scott Hutter said that plans are to
retain the Cougar name and continue operations in Peru as a
division of Martin Engineering. “Cougar has a great reputation
for high quality, heavy-duty electric vibrators operating on
alternating and direct current,” he observed.
“This move will give us complete control over our vibrator
quality and delivery,” Hutter continued. “It will also allow us to
quickly design, engineer and manufacture vibrators for special
customer applications. Martin Engineering will now be able to
more actively pursue worldwide applications for all types of
vibrators, especially 12- and 24-volt models used on mobile
equipment, which is one of Cougar’s strengths.”
Since patenting its first truck vibrator in 1964, Cougar has
grown through expansion and strategic acquisition to become a
name associated with quality products, workmanship and service.
The company designs and manufactures an electric line of single
and 3-phase vibrators in a wide range of force outputs. The firm
also manufactures piston, ball, ring and turbine pneumatic
vibrators and a complete line of hydraulic powered units.
Cougar has a long history supplying an extensive family of 12-
and 24 VDC vibrators specifically for truck and mobile
applications, and supplies a broad line of equipment to evacuate
material from storage vessels. Air cannons, gyro-whip bin
cleaning and power lance bin drill systems will continue to be
made in Peru, IL.
Founded in 1944, Martin Engineering is very active in making
bulk materials handling cleaner, safer and more productive.
Headquartered in Neponset, IL (USA), the company has
manufacturing, sales and service facilities in Brazil, China, France,
Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, Turkey and the UK,
with licensees in Australia, Chile and Canada.
In 2008, the company opened its 30,000ft2 Center for
Innovation (CFI) in Neponset. The CFI is headquarters for
Martin Engineering’s global R&D investments focused on
improving productivity and profitability for all industrial
operations where clean, safe, productive handling of bulk material
is key to the production process.
Over the years, Martin Engineering’s headquarters has
expanded to occupy more than 152,000ft2 square feet (14,121m2)
of floor space. The campus now includes sophisticated
engineering, research and development, high-tech computercontrolled
machines for laser cutting, turning, forming and
urethane moulding. An integrated computer system controls
order entry, JIT manufacturing, inventory and accounting. The
Neponset facility and several of its subsidiary companies are
certified to the world-class ISO 9001 quality systems.
