Earlier this year, global supplier of maritime passive safety solutions JLMD Ecologic Group signed a historic agreement with the Tianjin Xingang Shipyard (XGSIC) of China, to equip the future fleet of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs’ green bulk carriers with the innovative Fast Oil Recovery System (FOR System).
The FOR System is an effective means to counter accidental pollutions at sea. Following an incident, they enable fast and standardized pollutant recovery, directly from ships’ tanks.
The deal between JLMD System and Tianjin Xingang includes equipment of the FOR System on four to eight new bulk carriers (Handy and Capesize), which will also showcase the best existing other green technologies.
Through this pioneering commitment, the Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, one of the largest state-owned yards in China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (XGSIC), demonstrates the strong will of the whole Chinese maritime industry to become a world leader in the field of green ship building.
Liu Shushan, the deputy director of business department and economist of the Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, declared: “We are proud that a Chinese shipyard is the first in the world to equip newbuild bulk carriers with the Fast Oil Recovery
Systems. The Louis Dreyfus Armateurs vessels which we are to build will follow the best international environmental standards. Chinese shipyards are committed to building environmentally friendly vessels and we are indeed ready and willing to include the most recent and efficient technological solutions in our design to build the green vessels of the future.”
Gilles Longue`ve, general manager of JLMD Systems, added: “Maritime leaders are more and more keen to adopt green shipping solutions. Among them, the Chinese maritime industry has come a long way in the last years, positioning itself as a pioneer in the field. Its decision to install FOR Systems on the next generation of bulk carriers is a clear sign of a growing leadership on the market. We are proud of the very positive feedback we now receive from shipyards and ship owners on our solutions. There is an increasing environmental awareness among the international shipping industry, which clearly paves the way to a better handling of accidental pollutions at seas. FOR Systems have gained international recognition. Bureau Ve´ritas has issued a specific class notation and maritime passive safety equipment, including the FOR systems are currently assessed at the International Maritime Organization.”
