Excessive demand at the Brazilian port of São Francisco do Sul has resulted in the Norsul shipping line diverting some of its vessels carrying steel coils to Itajaí. São Francisco do Sul is experiencing a record year, expecting to handle 10mt (million
tonnes) as opposed to the 8mt handled last year.
Norsul is currently trying to obtain approval for a 120 million terminal project (Mar Azul) in the port, which would speed up handling of products and also reduce costs on behalf of the producer ArcelorMittal.
