Codemar-Iberbulk has invested €6.1 million in the mechanization
of its installations at the Spanish Mediterranean port of
Tarragona. This has affected three warehouses located on the
Castella Quay. Vessels can now discharge directly into these,
meaning productivity has been boosted and any negative effect
on the environment minimized.
Commodities are now discharged directly into a mobile
hopper, which is equipped with a suction capability to avoid dust
spillage. From here, agribulk products are sent along a 180-
metre conveyor system, which is capable of handling 8,000 cubic
metres per hour, to storage silos or warehouses. In total, the
company has 176,200 square metres of on-dock warehousing,
while up to 30,000 tonnes can be stored outside the port.
