Essar Bulk Terminal at Hazira port in India has commenced operations. The facility cost $171 million and can handle 30mt
(million tonnes) per annum, making it one of India’s leading dry bulk terminals. At present, ships of more than 50,000dwt can access the 550-metre long quayside, but additional dredging should eventually allow shipped sizes to rise to 105,000dwt. The port has been built primarily to support Essar Steel’s local production facility, which can produce more than 10mt annually, although will also handle third-party traffic.
