The mining company Mapsa has been given permission to build a dedicated minerals terminal in the Peruvian port of San Juan De Marcona.  Plans have been approved by the national port authority (APN), which include an investment budget of $2.2 billion that will also encompass a dedicated freight rail link from Andahuaylas mining region to the port.  Mapsa currently exploits iron ore mines in a 330,000 hectare region of Peru.  $450 million will be spent on upgrading facilities in and around the port, the most important of which will be the construction of a new minerals dock.  Plans exist to build a bulk and container handling terminal at a later stage.
