‘intergroup’ is a recognized integrated logistics company based in Italy, which has a great deal of experience in handling fertilizers, as well as other cargoes.
intergroup can provide customers with a wide and effective global management control for their cargoes, across the whole logistic chain, integrating different services like: transport, marine terminal activities, packaging, warehousing, handling of special cargo (for instance: windmills), handling and services for ferries, Ro-Ro and cruises, and therefore offering a tailor-made services while maintaining competitive prices.
Established in 1986, during its 25-year-long activity intergroup has been partner with leading national and international companies for which intergroup handles the industrial supply chain. In total, it handles 4.5mt (million tonnes) of goods per year and one million passengers.
Services provided by intergroup’s transport division include national and international transport for all kind of goods, including fertilizer. The company’s marine terminal network, based in both the Port of Rome (Civitavecchia) and the Port of Gaeta, offers clients a wide range of stevedoring services and has
at its disposal high-tech equipment as well as highly skilled members of staff.
The Port of Gaeta, where intergroup is headquartered, is currently in the middle of a large investment programme (€35 million) by the port authority, which will see draught increased to 12m at the beginning of next year.
The Port of Gaeta specializes in the reception and unloading of dry bulk materials. Therefore, one of integroup’s core focuses is on dry bulk-related activities. The company plays a central role in different industrial supply chains in Italy — these include clinker, coke, sands, salt, fertilizers, sulphate and carbonates.
intergroup is structured to offer expertise in the loading, unloading and transport of raw materials and goods from ships as bulk cargo. Harbour activities are carried out using specialized equipment and systems. The group owns four Gottwald cranes, with tonnages of 200t, 100t and 63t. It also has Caterpillar bulldozers and bobcats, hermetic grabs ranging in size from 7m3 to 20m3, dust-free hoppers, skid slides and vacuum cleaning machines.
intergroup also has a strong focus on warehousing, and owns and runs seven warehouses in Italy: a port warehouse in Gaeta (custom and VAT free); one in Formia, where packaging and others added- value services for the fertilizer industry are provided; Sessa Aurunca for coal and other cement factory related products; the food warehouse in Gaeta; the 20,000m2 wide multimodal Distriport within the heart of Civitavecchia’s Port; the intermodal exchange area in Frosinone, connection point between flows of road-carried and railway-carried products; and the brand new warehouse in Foggia (Puglia) connected by a direct train line arriving inside the warehouse and packaging systems for the food industry. In total, it offers 30,000m2 of covered warehouses, and 110,000m2 of open storage areas.
Some of the warehouses are completely dedicated to bulk storage. These include the fertilizer logistics. Since intergroup’s start-up in 1986, fertilizer has been at the core of the company’s business. Gaeta and Formia’s warehouses halfway between Rome and Naples, are the hub for the whole centre-southern part of Italy fertilizer’s distribution and are now well established and appreciated in the Italian market.
Fertilizer is discharged in Gaeta’s or Civitavecchia’s ports (thanks to the group marine terminal) from vessels usually arriving from northern Europe or northern Africa. It is then transported into warehouses, which are equipped with dedicated areas to store each cargo in the best way. The product is then packaged, using high-tech bagging machines, in bags of 15kg, 25kg, 50kg, 500kg bags, or one-tonne FIBCs (flexible intermediate bulk containers). The cargo is stored in closed warehouses and tracked efficiently using RFID (radio-frequency identification) systems and then finally delivered just-in- time to clients and end users, according to distribution plans.
intergroup is also active in the transport of fertilizer for many leading companies by road, train or containers all over Europe.
Maintaining its credentials as a ‘green’ company, solar panels are fitted to intergroup’s fertilizer warehouses, so that it can use green energy for logistics and packaging.
