The Tshipi mine in South Africa will use the port of Durban as well as that of Port Elizabeth to ship manganese ore. This will reach the coast using both rail and road, although rail operator Transnet is to reinforce the existing rail link to Durban. The rotary tippler, for example, is being reinforced to be able to handle additional capacity. The announcement of the line's upgrade has also prompted four major manganese mines to re-evaluate the use of Durban to export consignments.
