Two new port projects have emerged in Colombia aimed at the development of facilities on the Pacific coast to rival those at Buenaventura. These will be at Bahía Málaga and Tribugá. The projects first emerged more than 15 years ago, although studies for Bahía Málaga only commenced in 2005. However, the bay is frequented by whales and may therefore prove environmentally unsuitable. Environmental factors also threaten the project at Tribugá, which has a unique ecosystem. BC
