China’s northeast Liaoning province has begun construction of a new coal port at the city of Jinzhou. The facility will handle coal from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to production facilities in the south of the country. The port will be able to handle 35mt (million tonnes) per annum when the first phase is inaugurated in 2013. A second port, also to handle coal, is being built in the county of Suizhong, also in Liaoning province. This will have an annual capacity of 100mt.
