Cargo handling at the Port of São Francisco do Sul reached the best level in its history: in the first half of the year it reached 7.5 million tons. The number represents an increase of 21% compared to the first half of 2022, when 6.2 million tons of goods were handled.
The record was confirmed with the release of data for June (1.26 million tons of cargo handled), slightly more than the volume handled in May (1.23 million). In these first six months of the year, exports reached 4.4 million tons, driven mainly by grains (soy, 3.1 million, and corn, 930,000). Imports, on the other hand, reached 3.1 million tons, led by steel products, such as coils, bars and steel plates (1.6 million), and fertilizers (1 million).
For the president of the Port, Cleverton Vieira, the historical handling of the first half, with the largest volume of cargo ever handled by the Port, demonstrates how important São Francisco do Sul is in the national context, with the importation of inputs for agribusiness and for industry and with the export of our agricultural production.
“Thanks to the efficient work of our port operators and independent workers, added to the action of the Port administration to ensure the best possible infrastructure conditions, the movement of cargo through the Port is able to grow in a planned and sustainable way, contributing to the development of the region and the state”, he pointed out.
Works and investments
Operational growth has been accompanied by several investments in infrastructure in recent months, such as the opening of three scales in the new access to the Port, a work that cost R$ 1.1 million. The revitalization of the Grain Terminal received improvements of R$ 10 million. This amount includes the revitalization of 500 meters of the internal rail network, new road and rail scales, dumper and internal paving. The arrival of two new tugboats, in May, now totaling eight vessels, also contributed to streamlining cargo handling.
