A new coal terminal has opened at the Mozambican port of Beira. It will mostly handle export coal produced by the Brazilian company CVRD (68%) and the Rio Tinto mining group (32%). Construction of the terminal commenced in September 2010 and has absorbed investment of $20 million, including handling equipment. The terminal operator is Cornelder Moc¸ambique, although as part of its contract this company can partner third parties with extensive experience in the handling of dry bulk as a means of boosting capacity in the terminal.
