The Baltic Coal Terminal reports recently handling a record 77,027 tonnes in one day. This occurred on 30 July, involving the loading of export coal for the UK. In the same month, 350,000 tonnes of coal passed through the facility. Since coming on stream in March, the terminal has handled 1.4 5 million tonnes for the first five months. However, terminal management has criticized tariffs being charged by Latvian Rail, which it says are much too high and are effectively preventing the expansion of coal exports through the terminal.
