The northern Chilean port of Antofagasta has presented plans to expand and modernize facilities.  The aim is to convert the port, which is managed by EPA, into a hub for northern Chile and the western central part of South America.  Terminal 2, which is run by Antofagasta Terminal international, will upgrade berth six and extend berth seven.  This will also result in a deepening of the draft to allow much larger vessels to dock.  Terminal 1, which remains under the control of the port company, consists of berths 1, 2 and 3, all of which will be modernized along with an extensive warehousing complex.
