The AGP stevedoring group has consolidated its relationship
with the ArcelorMittal group by extending for a further four
years the handling contract it has with the company at the
northern Spanish ports of Gijon and Aviles, where it loads and
loads iron and steel products.
The stevedore managed to boost productivity by 50% since
taking over the contract in 2006.  In the case of steel reels,
it has boosted the number it can load from 150 an hour to
450 an hour, while steel plates have passed from 110tph
(tonnes per hour) to 180tph.
The stevedore posted traffic of 1.1 million tonnes last year and
expects to post a similar figure in 2009.
