Additional business gained by Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham has resulted in another new warehouse being constructed within the Port’s complex.

Building upon the success of the Immingham Bulk Park and the significant growth of the port’s dry-bulk portfolio, the newly-built facility adds another 9,600 sq m to the port’s high-quality bulk storage area.

The facility is designed to store a wide range of bulk products including grain, animal feed, fertiliser and biomass products.

At a cost of £4 million, this sees the completion of a comprehensive investment programme including a further £1.3 million refurbishment of four existing warehouses totalling over 13,000 sq m of undercover bulk storage.

Immingham’s total covered storage for bulk cargo within the Bulk Park complex now exceeds 43,000 sq m.

ABP's commitment to sustainable development played a significant part from the early design stages.

All storage warehouses built to accommodate more than one bulk commodity require a high level of house-keeping and water consumption.  As a consequence, the design team developed a rainwater capture system.  The harvested water is used for pressure washing plant and vehicles working in the store.

Another resource saving measure is the use of solar power which feeds the adjoining office suite with hot water for staff use and the central heating system.

John Fitzgerald, Port Director, Grimsby & Immingham, said: “The expansion is an important development for the Port of Immingham.  This investment during difficult economic times illustrates a commitment to our existing customers and our confidence in securing new business for these facilities in the future.”

With the opening of the new All Weather Terminal in Hull in September 2009, ABP has created a range of storage options that offer total flexibility on the north and south banks of the Humber.

The first cargo to be stored in the new warehouse on the Immingham Bulk Park was a cargo of 5,500 tonnes of granular urea for existing customer, Gleadell Agriculture Limited.
